Breaking Parrott and Obafemi start in attack for Scotland clash

The two front men proved a real handful for the Scots in the reverse fixture
The two front men proved a real handful for the Scots in the reverse fixture

Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi have been picked to lead the line for Ireland in tonight's UEFA Nations League clash with Scotland at Hampden Park.

There is no place for Shane Duffy in the side to face Steve Clarke's side as the central defensive trio will be made up by John Egan, who will captain the team, Nathan Collins and Dara O'Shea.

Matt Doherty and James McClean will start as wing-backs on the right and left flank respectively, while Josh Cullen will anchor midfielder alongside Jayson Molumby and Jason Knight.

Derby County utility man Knight will be tasked with linking play with the front two of Parrott and Obafemi, while Gavin Bazunu returns as goalkeeper having missed the summer schedule through injury.

Ireland beat Scotland 3-0 in the reverse fixture in June and while the manager hinted that he may opt for the same outfield ten for the Hampden fixture, he has made one change with West Brom's O'Shea given the nod ahead of Duffy, who has been struggling for game time this season at Fulham.

Seamus Coleman and Jeff Hendrick have to settle for a place on the bench, while Liam Scales did not make the matchday 23.

In-form strikers Chiedozie Ogbene and Scott Hogan are named among the substitutes.

For Scotland, Lyndon Dykes has been rewarded for his brace midweek by getting the nod to lead the line as Clarke makes two changes from the team that beat Ukraine 3-0 on Wednesday.

Che Adams drops to the bench, while the other change is enforced as Aaron Hickey comes in on the right side of the back four to replaced Everton defender Nathan Patterson who got injured against Ukraine.
