World Cup-winner Paul Pogba has claimed that a gang has threatened him and tried to extort money from him.

Earlier on Sunday, Pogba's brother Matthias had published videos online promising "great revelations" about the midfielder and his agent Rafaela Pimenta, who succeeded the late Mino Raiola.

Matthias Pogba said "the whole world, as well as my brother's fans, and even more so the French team and Juventus, my brother's team-mates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things".

"All this is likely to be explosive," Matthias Pogba added, who said people needed to decide whether his brother "deserves his place in the French team and the honour of playing in the World Cup. If he deserves to be a starter at Juventus."

A statement from the the France and Juventus star's lawyers said that the videos were "unfortunately no surprise" and that "They are in addition to threats and extortion attempts by an organised gang against Paul Pogba.

"The competent bodies in Italy and France were informed a month ago and there will be no further comments in relation to the ongoing investigation."

News agency AFP said that French police had begun an investigation.
