Shane Long's eight-year association with Southampton has come to an end, the Premier League club has confirmed.
The 35-year-old, who made 245 appearances in all competitions, including 198 in the Premier League, will leave the club following the conclusion of his contract.
In April 2019, Long wrote his name into the Premier League history books by scoring the fastest-ever goal, taking just 7.69 seconds to break the deadlock against Watford.
That was one of 39 goals he scored at the club, the most memorable coming in the 2016/17 League Cup semi-final when scored at Anfield to secure a 2-0 aggregate win over Liverpool with the Saints losing to Manchester United in the final.
"Everyone at Southampton Football Club would like to express their gratitude to Shane for his incredible dedication and service throughout his time at St Mary’s, and we wish him well for the future," the club said.
