Galway United moved two points clear of Cork City at the summit of the SSE Airtricity First Division after a 3-0 win over Athlone Town at Eamonn Deacy Park.

Cork, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by Wexford FC at Turner's Cross.

Galway's goals all came in the second half as they eventually wore down Athlone's resistance.

Alex Murphy opened the scoring on 54 minutes, with David Hurley adding a second on 80. Ronan Manning rounded out the victory as the game went into added time.

Conor Davis struck the equaliser on 46 minutes for Wexford as they earned a point on Leeside. Kevin O'Connor piledriver had Cork in front after 22 minutes but they weren't able to make it six consecutive league wins.

Elsewhere, Treaty United and Cobh Ramblers drew 2-2.
