Waterford got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion as a Phoenix Patterson brace helped Ian Morris' side to a 4-0 win at Cobh Ramblers in the SSE Airtricity League First Division.

The visitors were on a three-game run without victory which had seen them slip behind Cork City and Galway United in the promotion race.

But they did not look back after George Forrest gave the Blues a 27th minute lead, putting the finishing touch onto a free kick that was delivered in.

Cian Kavanagh doubled that lead just before half-time, heading in another free-kick, this time from Junior Quitirna.

The latter was the provider again for Patterson's first goal seven minutes after the break and the same player secured a brace shortly after the hour mark to seal a four-goal victory.

The result lifts Waterford to within two points of second placed Galway, who host Wexford on Saturday.
