Aston Villa defender Matty Cash was shown a yellow card after revealing a message of support to his Polish team-mate Tomasz Kedzior, who is stuck in Kyiv amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Cash opened the scoring in Aston Villa's 2-0 win over Brighton and celebrated by revealing a message under his jersey for Kedziora.

"Tomasz Kedziora + family stay strong my bro," it said.

Under Premier League rules, removing a jersey is considered an excessive goal celebration and a bookable offence, with referee John Brooks issuing Cash a yellow card at the American Express Community Stadium.

Villa now sit in 12th position in the table, three points behind Brighton with a game in hand over the Seagulls.
