Republic of Ireland Under-19 defender Tayo Adaramola is still on cloud nine after making his Crystal Palace debut last weekend, with manager Patrick Vieira full of praise for the Dubliner.

Adaramola, formerly of St Kevin's Boys, linked up with the Eagles after his family moved to London when he was 12.

The 18-year-old has impressed with their academy sides and the Under-23s, leading to Vieira handing him his senior debut off the bench during Saturday’s 2-0 FA Cup fourth round win against Hartlepool at Selhurst Park.

"Right now I'm over the moon," Adaramola told Crystal Palace TV.

"I can’t even explain how I'm feeling. I’m still shocked with everything that’s happened over the past weeks. I'm just happy that I’ve finally done this."

Vieira had plenty of encouragement for the teenager too, and said more opportunities will come if Adamarola continues to show progress.

"He is a young player so full of energy," said the manager.

"He likes to go forward and has been doing well with the academy. This was the right time to give him a couple of minutes, and he was close to scoring his first goal.

"Overall, he is a part of those young players where, if we work well with them and they are committed to the work ethic that we want to put into place, they will have a chance to fulfil their potential."
