Liverpool have completed the signing of Colombia forward Luis Diaz from Porto, the Premier League club have announced.

The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Anfield club, understood to run until 2027, after the Reds agreed an initial fee of €45m with the Portuguese outfit.

The deal, which could also see Liverpool pay an additional €15m in potential add-ons, is subject to the acquisition of a work permit

Liverpool representatives travelled to South America, where Diaz is currently on international duty, to complete the deal ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.

Diaz, who is due to play for Colombia in a World Cup qualifier in Argentina on Tuesday, is not expected to arrive on Merseyside until later in the week at the earliest.

Liverpool have beaten off competition from other clubs, notably Tottenham, to secure the services of the player.

Diaz was understood to have been Klopp’s first target for next summer but the club decided to move earlier than planned due to the interest of others.

In a brief video clip released by Liverpool, Diaz said: "I’m really happy to sign for Liverpool."

Diaz scored 41 goals in 125 games for Porto after moving to Europe from Colombia’s Junior FC in the summer of 2019.

He played against Liverpool twice earlier this season as Porto faced Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Champions League group stage.

He has also scored seven times in 31 appearances for his country.

Bruno Guimaraes has become Newcastle's third signing of the January transfer window, with the club eyeing another before Monday’s deadline in the shape of Brighton’s Dan Burn.

The Magpies announced the addition of 24-year-old Brazil international Guimaraes from Lyon on Sunday afternoon for a reported initial fee of around £35m, with the midfielder agreeing a deal until summer 2026 at St James’ Park.

He will wear the number 39 shirt at Newcastle, which was once the number of a taxi driven by his father, but he will not join up with Eddie Howe’s squad until his international commitments conclude next week.

"Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I’m delighted to secure him," Howe said of the three-capped Brazil ace, who has spent the last two seasons in Ligue 1.

"He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead. He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him.

"We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty."

Ex-Athletico Paranaense player Guimaraes is not looking likely to be the last business completed by 18th-placed Newcastle.

A fee is thought to have been agreed with divisional rivals Brighton over the signing of 29-year-old Burn.

With the transfer window set to shut on Monday, Newcastle are working to finalise a move for the defender which is believed to be in the region of £13m.

Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood were the first two signings made by the club since Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium completed its takeover of the north-east side in October.

Newcastle have spent the last week on a warm-weather training camp in Jeddah, which has seen chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and other representatives of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund meet boss Howe.
