Republic of Ireland Under-21 attacker JJ Kayode scored his first ever goal for Rotherham United as the Millers edged a thriller against Crewe Alexandra to make the last eight of the Papa John's Trophy.
Kayode has been at Rotherham since 2017, though he's been sent on loan spells at Chesterfield, Gateshead and Carlisle United.
His clubmate Chiedozie Ogbene had had a breakthrough year at international level, shining for Stephen Kenny's Ireland seniors, and he played a key part in Kayode getting on the scoresheet at Crewe's Mornflake Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Another former Irish Under-21 international, Kieran Sadlier, had levelled for Rotherham after Mikael Mandron scored an early opener. Michael Smith put the visitors ahead in the 57th minute, Scott Robertson equalised 14 minutes later, and then came Kayode's moment.
Ogbene stood up an inviting cross that Kayode glanced home from close range.
He should have scored a second when he somehow cleared the bar with the goal at his mercy following good play from Sadlier before but Freddie Ladapo killed the contest in injury-time when he held off two defenders and then smashed home an emphatic finish.
