Daniel O'Reilly has completed a move from Drogheda United to Scottish Championship side Hamilton Academical.
The 26-year-old defender had an excellent campaign in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division with the Drogs in 2021.
After completing all necessary Covid-19 requirements, he now goes straight into the Accies squad for Sunday's clash against Queen of the South.
Hamilton Accies are sixth in the ten-team division, with head coach Stuart Taylor hopeful O'Reilly's arrival will give them a welcome boost in the new year.
"I'm delighted to welcome Dan here to Accies. He's captained Drogheda in the past and won personal accolades for his performances," he said.
"We've been looking to add a bit of leadership to the side and Dan allows us to do just that. I know he'll be a great addition to the squad.
"Dan was a player myself and my staff had identified very early on and to have him in the door on the first day of the window is fantastic."
O’Reilly added: "I am delighted to be here. I've had a lot of conversations with the gaffer. They were all positive, so I think it was a no-brainer to come here."
It's another setback for Drogheda, who've already lost Joe Redmond and Mark Doyle to St Pat's this winter.
Conor Kane is gone to Shels, Killian Phillips could be set for a move to Crystal Palace, while James Brown also looks highly likely to depart.
