Chiedozie Ogbene continued his sparkling run of form as he helped Rotherham to stay top of League One with a 5-1 hammering of Gillingham on Tuesday night.

The Corkman had a breakthrough international window with the Republic of Ireland last month as he helped Stephen Kenny's team to a battling draw against Portugal before impressing in the win away to Luxembourg.

He was on song again for the Millers who had to come from behind to preserve their long unbeaten run, having last suffered defeat on 11 September.

Olly Lee put the visitors in front after only five minutes but goals from Freddie Ladapo and Mickel Miller turned the game on its head before half time.

Daniel Barlaser added a third from the penalty spot just before the hour mark to ensure victory for the league leaders, before Gillingham finished with 10 men after Ryan Jackson received his second yellow card after 71 minutes.

Barlaser saw a second spot-kick crash back off the crossbar but he made amends for that miss with his second goal of the night with 10 minutes remaining, which came after good work from Ireland Under-21 attacker JJ Kayode.

Ogbene completed the scoring late on when he received possession on the wing, cut inside and rifled in a terrific effort that clipped the post before bouncing in.
