It was a day of mixed fortunes for Irish players in League One and League Two, with Aaron Drinan stealing the headlines thanks to a brilliant hat-trick for Leyton Orient.
Corkman Drinan was on fire for League Two side Orient who hammered Hartlepool 5-0. He scored three and was involved in making the other two for Harry Smith and Tom James.
"He scored four goals early on the season. He's been out of the side a little bit but he came back today and of course scoring a hat-trick was great for him, great for the team but he also set the other two up," said O's assistant manager Joe Gallen.
"He's been patient. He's a very good trainer, a very good person, we like him a lot and he got his rewards today."
In League One Aiden McGeady was sent off for two late challenges on another Irish wide man, Chiedozie Ogbene, as Rotherham thrashed Sunderland 5-1.
James McClean, meanwhile, kept up his fine form for Wigan Athletic, scoring his fourth goal in four games as the Latics beat Burton Albion 2-0.
Troy Parrott missed MK Dons' 4-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra. Afterwards boss Liam Manning failed to offer clarity on the reason for his absence, saying: "Troy wasn't available today. For me we'll have a look at next week, see who's available and go from there."
