First Division champions Shelbourne will be on the hunt for a new manager after it was announced that Ian Morris is leaving the club.

The former Scunthorpe and Bohemians midfielder was appointed by Shels in November 2018, the then 31-year-old's first managerial gig after finishing his playing days with Bohs.

Earlier this month the club were crowned Airtricity League First Division champions for the second time in three years, but Morris says he feels the time is right for a change.

His final game in charge will be the season finale at home to UCD on Friday night.

"It is with a heavy heart but the time has come for the club and myself to part ways. At the end of the season I'll be stepping down as first team manager," he said via a club statement today.

"The transformation in attendance from 2018 to now is absolutely amazing. The connection with the players and staff is brilliant, and I hope you keep getting behind them to drive them on. Thank you for your support.

"I’m extremely proud to have managed this great football club.I wish Shelbourne FC and everyone connected with the club continued success in the future."

Chairman Andrew Doyle called on the fans to give Morris the perfect send-off on Friday night.

"Ian Morris is and will always be a Shelbourne legend," he said.

"His record as manager speaks for itself. From a standing start three years ago, with no prior management experience, Ian has won two titles in three seasons and has had an extraordinary win record of 67% in all competitive matches."
