Celtic defender Liam Scales has been called up to Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland squad for the games against Azerbaijan and Qatar in place of the injured Ryan Manning.

The 23-year-old Swansea player was forced to withdraw through injury.

Scales was previously called up to the senior squad ahead of the last international window but didn't feature in the games against Portugal, Azerbaijan and Serbia.

The former U21 Republic of Ireland international made his debut for Celtic as a substitute against Raith Rovers two weeks ago. The 23-year-old Wicklow native transferred to Celtic from Shamrock Rovers in August, having played an integral part in the Hoops' 2020 Premier Division success and their European campaigns.
