Reigning champions Peamount United surged to the top of the Women's National League after thrashing title rivals Shelbourne 5-0.

Alannah McEvoy and Stephanie Roche gave the hosts a half-time advantage at PRL Park, before Lucy McCarton, Lauren Kelly and Dora Gorman added three more in the second '45 as Peamount go two points clear at the top with a game in hand.

With five rounds of action to go, the result could prove crucial in the destination of this season's league title.

Elsewhere, Bohemians got the better of Cork City thanks to second half goals from Erica Burke and Lisa Murphy to secure a 2-0 home win.

The result sees Bohs move within a point of fifth-place Galway, having played a game more, while Cork remain second bottom on 10 points.

Sunday's action will see bottom side Treaty United host third-placed Wexford Youths, and Galway visit DLR Waves with both fixtures kicking off at 2pm.
