Seamus Coleman has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Serbia on Tuesday night.

The national team captain has picked up an injury in Saturday's game with Azerbaijan and will miss the Aviva Stadium encounter and as a result, Cyrus Christie has been called into the squad for the final game of the triple header.

Coleman played a right wing-back role in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat against Portugal, while he was part of a three-man defence in the disappointing 1-1 draw with Azerbaijan.

Out-of-favour Fulham defender, Christie, is expected to link up with the squad on Monday ahead of Tuesday's home fixture.
