Republic of Ireland international duo Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Emily Whelan have both joined Barclays FA Women's Super League team Birmingham City.

Ryan-Doyle joins from Peamount and Whelan from Shelbourne with the pair both signing a one-year contract with the Blues.

Both are available for Birmingham's Super League opener against Tottenham on Saturday.

The new signings should quickly feel at home in Birmingham with Louise Quinn, Marie Hourihan and Jamie Finn already at the club.

Ryan-Doyle's exit will be a blow for Peamount with her goals helping them to back-to-back Women's National League titles but the striker is hoping to bring her form with her to Birmingham.

"I am excited to start my professional career at Blues and excited to see where it will take me and how I will progress with my football," she said.

"Scott [Booth] has told me about his plans for the season and what the team's ambitions are, which is something that I wanted to be a part of."

Whelan echoed those sentiments and said: "I am really excited for the upcoming season and I will do my best to help the team. I will do everything I can to help us get to where we want to be.

"It's a big step up but I am willing to work hard and give it everything I've got."
