Miles Robinson scored in the 117th minute as the USA beat Mexico 1-0 in the final of the 16th CONCACAF Gold Cup in Las Vegas.

Atlanta United defender Robinson headed home a freekick by Kellyn Acosta for his third international goal.

Matt Turner made five saves and earned the Golden Glove award for the tournament.

The US won the North American, Central American and Carribean continental title for the seventh time overall and for the first time since 2017.

Mexico were aiming for their 12th win but dropped to 5-2 against the Americans in finals.

The neighbours had also gone to extra time on 6 June in the final of the CONCACAF Nations League, also won by the US on a 3-2 scoreline, but the winners had gone as underdogs as they were missing players in pre-season with European clubs.

The US retained only three starts from the Nations League final compared to eight for Mexico.

Mexico dominated the first half but Turner made four saves, three from Rogelio Funes Mori.

The best came in the 11th minute off a corner kick when Turner saved at full strech to push away Mori's header from 14 yards.

Despite Mexico having 63% of the possession the best opportunity to break the deadlock in normal time went to the Americans in the 26th minute.

Sebastian Lletget spotted Paul Arriola alone near the penalty spot but his shot hit the outside of the right post. Mexican Alfredo Talavera scrambled and made the block with his back.
