Tierney slotted home in the 11th minute after Dawson Devoy's lovely clipped pass had caused panic in the home defence.

The League of Ireland side managed the game relatively comfortably in the first half but Dudelange woke up on the turnaround.

Keith Long's men will play the return leg at the Aviva Stadium in front of 8,000 fans on Thursday, 29 July.
