Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Anselmo Garcia McNulty has been tied down on a long-term contract by Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

The 18-year-old defender is highly thought of by the Germans who have high hopes the youth team captain can continue his impressive development.

Garcia McNulty moved to Wolfsburg from Real Betis in 2019. This is his first professional contract.

"Anselmo has rightly earned this professional contract through very good performances at every age level he's played at, and thanks to his continual development in the last couple of years," said Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer.

"We are convinced by his potential."

Garcia McNulty, who has a Spanish father and Irish mother, was on the Ireland U17s team during their 2019 European Championships campaign.

In May he was drafted into Jim Crawford's Under-21s squad for friendlies against Switzerland, Australia and Denmark.
