Spain captain Sergio Busquets will rejoin his team-mates ahead of Saturday's Group E clash with Poland after returning a negative Covid-19 test.

The 32-year-old midfielder tested positive for coronavirus after leading his side into their warm-up game against Portugal on 4 June, but has now been cleared to meet up with the rest of the squad before they head for Seville on Friday.

A statement on Spain's official website read: "The captain of the national team, Sergio Busquets, will join the Spain camp this Friday and will travel with the team to Seville once Covid-19 has been overcome.

"The Catalan has given a negative result in the result of the last PCR test and, once all the health protocols have been fulfilled, he will be able to return with the national team in the next few hours.

"Sergio Busquets will meet his team-mates again hours before the trip to Seville on the eve of Spain's second match at Euro 2020, which will be played against Poland."

Busquets was obliged to self-isolate after his positive result and all of those who had been in close contact with him were quarantined, prompting Spain to field an Under-21s side in their final friendly against Lithuania.

As a result, he sat out the opening fixture, a disappointing 0-0 draw with Sweden, and will return as Luis Enrique's men attempt to belatedly kick-start their campaign against Poland at La Cartuja Stadium.
