Sligo Rovers have been awarded a 3-0 victory in their fixture with Waterford FC last weekend.

Waterford FC said they are unable to fulfill the game and the club informed the FAI of their desire to forfeit the fixture.

Waterford's senior squad was stood down following a positive Covid-19 test within the squad which left nine other close contacts among the playing staff.

The club played their U19 squad in a Premier Division game at home to Drogheda United, losing 7-0.

Waterford opted not to use their Under-19 side for this game instead withdrew.

The FAI's Disciplinary Unit met today and confirmed the decision to award Sligo the points. This season Covid-19 postponements are not granted in a bid to complete the league fixtures in the normal calendar.

An FAI statement read: "Sligo Rovers have been awarded a 3-0 win over Waterford FC after the away side failed to fulfil their SSE Airtricity Premier Division fixture on 15 May following a Covid issue within the club.

"The Premier Division League table will be updated accordingly."

Sligo move up to second in the table, while Waterford are level on points at the bottom with Longford Town.

Meanwhile Manchester City starlet Joe Hodge will not feature for Derry City.

Hodge joined Derry on loan prior to the start of the season but a back injury meant he didn't make an appearance.

The Candystripes said: "Derry City would like to extend our best wishes to Joe Hodge as he continues his treatment and rehabilitation from injury over the coming weeks.

"We have kept in contact with Joe, his family and Manchester City since the player returned home in February. Joe's loan contract at the Brandywell is due to end next month and therefore he won’t now be returning to the club.

"The management, staff, players and supporters here would like to wish Joe the very best over the coming weeks and look forward to following his career in the future."
