Athlone Town went top of the table on Friday night after plundering 1-0 win against Cork City at Turner's Cross.

Cabinteely's clash with Galway United was called off due to a positive Covid-19 test in the Cabo camp, giving Athlone the chance to leapfrog them at the summit.

They took it thanks to James Doona's composed 78th-minute finish. Cork did push for a leveller but Adam Wixted really should have sealed the points when he was clean through in injury-time but his miss did not prove costly as the midlanders held on.

At Tolka Park Shelbourne picked up their first win of the campaign as they edged past 1-0 Wexford. An own goal by Conor Crowley on the hour mark settled it.

Treaty United and Cobh Ramblers played out a 1-1 draw in Limerick.

Sean McSweeney put the hosts ahead 15 minutes in but Cobh responded five minutes into the second half through Darryl Walsh, and that's how it stayed.

At Belfield it was a goalless stalemate as UCD and Bray Wanderers could not be separated.
