Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has been handed yet another injury blow with the news that frontman Aaron Connolly will miss the World Cup 2022 qualifier with Luxembourg.
Connolly picked up an injury during Ireland's 3-2 defeat to Serbia in Belgrade and will return to his club, Brighton, for treatment.
The injury also rules Connolly out of next week's clash with Qatar.
The news comes as the latest in a long line of injury setbacks for the Republic of Ireland, with Kenny never seemingly able to pick his first choice XI since taking charge.
Preparations for the game with Serbia suffered a late setback when Caoimhin Kelleher, Kevin Long, Conor Hourihane and Callum O'Dowda were all ruled out at the last minute.
Despite this Ireland showed potenttial in defeat against the Serbians, with Connolly among those who impressed.
