Marco Rose is set to become Borussia Dortmund's manager at the end of the season, his current club Borussia Monchengladbach have announced.

The 44-year-old has made the decision to exercise a clause in his contract which will allow him to swap the Bundesliga clubs in the summer, if certain conditions are met.

Dortmund are currently sixth in the table and level on points with Monchengladbach in seventh after they sacked Lucien Favre in December and put Edin Terzic in interim charge until the end of the campaign.

Rose guided the Borussia Park outfit to fourth last season and into the Champions League round of 16 this time around, where they will do battle with Manchester City later this month.

Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the official club website: "In the past few weeks, we have held a lot of discussions with Marco about his future.

"Unfortunately, Marco has decided that he would like to exercise a clause in his contract, which was due to expire in June 2022, and move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

"Therefore, Marco will no longer be available to us after the end of the season should the conditions set out in his contract be met on time.

"Until then, we will do everything in our power together with Marco to achieve this season's goals in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League."

Dortmund are preparing for Wednesday's clash with Sevilla and have yet to comment on Monchengladbach's statement.

Rose has also managed Lokomotive Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg since he retired from playing in 2010 after a lengthy spell with Mainz.
