Jordan Rhodes' late header condemned Bournemouth to a fourth straight Championship defeat as Sheffield Wednesday won 2-1 on the south coast.

Republic of Ireland attacker Shane Long moved to the Cherries on loan from Southampton on Monday but the Tipperary man was not eligible to play tonight having completed his paperwork just 10 seconds before the window closed.

His new side could have been behind inside the first minute here.

Relegation battlers Wednesday shocked the Cherries with a hard-fought victory, with Callum Paterson putting the visitors into a 44th-minute lead at Dean Court.

Junior Stanislas' penalty put Bournemouth on level terms and gave them hope of completing a turnaround victory.

But replacement Rhodes had other ideas, nodding in smartly at the far post to seal an important win for Wednesday.

Millwall held leaders Norwich to a goalless draw at the Den, with Daniel Farke's visitors unable to break the deadlock that could have yielded a seven-point lead over second-placed Swansea.

Michael Rose's own goal handed Chris Hughton's Nottingham Forest a 2-1 win at Coventry.

The Sky Blues took the lead through striker Max Biamou, only for Lewis Grabban to level the scores for Forest.

Rose only joined the fray at half-time, and found himself putting through his own net just eight minutes later.

And that proved enough for Forest to grab all three points, sealing a third win in five league game for Hughton's resurgent side.

Wycombe and Birmingham played out a goalless stalemate at Adams Park, with the visitors losing Marc Roberts to a late red card.
