Katie McCabe warmed up for Republic of Ireland's crucial Euro qualifier against Ukraine in style as a brilliant free-kick finish from an improbable angle helped Arsenal thrash North London rivals Tottenham 6-1 in the Women's Super League.
Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema set a new WSL scoring record as she reached 52 goals with a hat-trick, while Caitlin Foord netted twice.
But it was Irish international midfielder McCabe's outstanding set-piece that put Arsenal in front at Meadow Park after just four minutes as she whipped the ball beyond Spurs goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer and into the far corner from a tight angle.
Next up for McCabe will be international duty with Ireland against Ukraine on Friday in Kiev as Vera Pauw's side play their penultimate qualifier of the Euro 2021 campaign.
It proved to be a good day for McCabe and Arsenal on the domestic front overall as title rivals Everton and Manchester City both dropped points.
Everton were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Brighton And Hove Albion. Ireland duo Denise O'Sullivan and Megan Connolly started for the visitors, while fellow Irish international Rianna Jarrett made an appearance off the bench.
City's stuttering start to the season continued with a surprise 1-1 draw away to mid-table Reading.
American striker Christen Press got her first league goal for Manchester United in a 4-2 win away to West Ham, while Birmingham City's 4-0 win over bottom side Bristol City was tarnished when Abbi Grant was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in stoppage time.
Arsenal top the standings on 15 points from five games, with Everton second on 13 points ahead of Manchester United on goal difference. Current champions Chelsea are fourth with a game in hand.
