Longford Town missed the chance to secure a place in the SSE Airtricity League First Division promotion play-offs after a 1-0 defeat at home to Cobh Ramblers.

Ian Turner's 48th minute goal gave the visitors a narrow win.

The result leaves Longford fourth, just one point clear of Cabinteely and three ahead of Cobh, with a point required to reach the play-offs.

In Saturday's other First Division action, Shamrock Rovers II beat Athlone Town 3-1 at home.

Athlone took an early lead through Ciaran Grogan but goals from Thomas Oluwya and Brandon Kavanagh had the hosts in front at the break.

Oluwya added another just before the hour mark to give Rovers II all three points. Athlone remain eighth, one point ahead of Saturday's opponents.
