James McCarthy has been ruled out of Ireland's Nations League meeting with Finland in Helsinki.

The Crystal Palace midfielder started in Thursday critical game against Slovakia in Bratislava but was withdrawn through injury early in the second half and did not feature in the subsequent Nations League tie against Wales in Aviva Stadium on Sunday.

The player has a tight hamstring and the Irish management decided against bringing him to the Finish capital.

Kenny opted to replace McCarthy with the young Millwall midfielder Jayson Molumby at the weekend, the 21-year-old Waterford man winning the Man of the Match award.
