No changes as Vera Pauw confirms extended squad for Ukraine showdown

Ireland will be aiming to repeat last year's victory against Ukraine
Ireland will be aiming to repeat last year's victory against Ukraine

Vera Pauw has named a 30-woman extended squad for the Republic of Ireland's crucial upcoming Euro 2022 qualifier against Ukraine later this month.

It shows no changes from the extended squad selected ahead of last month's 3-0 defeat to top seeds Germany, who are due to visit Dublin in early December.

The Girls in Green are in a strong position to finish second in Group I. They're currently seven points ahead of Ukraine, although they have played one more game.

A victory in Kiev would guarantee them a play-off place, with Ireland having never qualified for a major tournament before.

Three of the best runners-up will qualify automatically for the tournament being held in England. If Pauw's charges have realistic ambitions of doing so, then they must take full points from the upcoming qualifier.

A trimmed down squad of 23 is expected to be confirmed at the end of next week.
