Edinson Cavani was Manchester United's most high-profile signing on a busy transfer deadline day on Monday as five players joined the club, with defender Chris Smalling departing for Roma on a permanent deal.
United's apparent reluctance to meet Borussia Dortmund's £108m price tag for Jadon Sancho has seemingly led them to snap up Uruguay striker Cavani on a free transfer following his release by Paris St Germain earlier in the summer
The 33-year-old, who has won the Golden Boot in both Ligue 1 and Serie A, joins on a one-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.
He said on the club website: "Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here. I've worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.
"I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere, when it is safe for the fans to return.

Porto left-back Alex Telles has signed a four-year deal for a fee understood to be £13.5m, plus £1.8m in potential add-ons, while teenage centre-back Willy Kambwala has joined from Sochaux.
The 16-year-old, who has captained France's Under-17s, joins for a fee it is understood could rise to €4m with add-ons. Kambwala will join Neil Ryan’s Under-18s squad.

United have also agreed a €30m fee for teenage Atalanta winger Amad Diallo Traore.
The 18-year-old had been expected to join Serie A rivals Parma on loan, but the Red Devils have swooped for the player who made his first-team debut last season and has found himself on the bench for the opening three games of the new campaign.
The Ivorian is expected to move in January pending a successful work permit application, with the fee potentially to rise depending on add-ons. He has three first-team appearances to his name for last season's Champions League surprise package.

One man heading for the exit door is Chris Smalling, who has made a loan move to Roma permanent in a deal worth €15m "plus add ons".
The central defender made 323 appearances for United, who claimed two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and a Europa League crown during his time at Old Trafford.
Arsenal have signed Thomas Partey after Atletico Madrid announced the midfielder's reported £45m release clause was met by the Gunners with minutes to spare on transfer deadline day.
The 27-year-old Ghana international played 35 times last season for Atletico, who say the Gunners put in a bid that matched his release clause with 32 minutes remaining in the window.
Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira has moved in the opposite direction, joining the La Liga club on a season-long loan.
Partey has signed a long-term contract with the Gunners.

Leed United have signed Brazilian winger Raphinha from Rennes for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £17m.
The 23-year-old, who helped Ligue 1 side Rennes secure Champions League football last season, has agreed a four-year deal, subject to international clearance.
He is Leeds' fourth major signing this window following the arrivals of forward Rodrigo and defenders Robin Koch and Diego Llorente.
He will wear the number 18 shirt and could make his debut when the Whites take on Wolves on Monday, 19 October.
Bohemians have confirmed that winger Kris Twardek has joined Polish top-flight club Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystok for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old joined from Sligo Rovers at the start of the season and will now join up with Cillian Sheridan's former club in Poland.
The Canadian, who had just five weeks remaining on his contract, said: "I want to send a message to Bohs supporters: Best of luck for the rest of the season.

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal.
The France Under-21s international has made 82 appearances since joining the Gunners from Lorient two years ago but he has found himself surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta this season.
Guendouzi has not has not been selected in a matchday squad since a post-game incident in June's defeat at Brighton led to further-reaching questions about his mentality.
Arsenal said in a statement: "Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan. Everyone at Arsenal wishes Matteo well for the season."
Irish international Josh Cullen has left London for Anderlecht.
The Hammers midfielder, who tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the Carabao Cup tie against Hull on 22 September, and has been working from home since, has signed a three-year deal with Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht.
The 24-year-old who won the first of his two caps last year, has come through the ranks at West Ham, but struggled for regular first-team football, making just 10 senior appearances since his debut in 2015. He earned his Ireland call-up as a result of some excellent form in the Championship while on loan at Charlton.
A fee of around £1m is believed to have been agreed between the two clubs.

Celtic have formally completed the loan signing of AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt. The 24-cap Uruguay international will provide competition for Greg Taylor and could come up against Milan in their first Europa League group stage game later in the month.
Laxalt can play in the match and speaking through an interpreter at Celtic Park, he said his focus was now on the Hoops.
"It is a coincidence that they were drawn in the same group but I am very happy to be here," said the former Genoa player. "It is a great opportunity.
"It doesn't really matter who the opposition is as my head and heart is now at Celtic and I can't wait to play and show what I can do.
Celtic have also sold 20-year-old forward Jack Aitchison to Barnsley. The club’s youngest goalscorer, who netted against Motherwell at the age of 16, will be immediately loaned to an English League Two club but has signed a three-year deal with the Yorkshire side.

The 22-year-old has initially joined Juve on a two-year loan deal with a view to a permanent move.
Chiesa, a reported target for Manchester United, started in all three of Fiorentina's league games this season, scoring in last month’s 4-3 defeat at Inter Milan.
He progressed through Fiorentina’s youth set-up and after making his first-team debut against Juventus on the opening day of the 2016/17 season, he has scored 34 goals in over 150 appearances in all competitions.
