Republic of Ireland international Robbie Brady will miss Burnley's Premier League clash with Southampton on Saturday night with bruised ribs.

The 28-year-old aggravated the injury in Sunday’s 4-2 defeat by Leicester City and did not feature in Burnley’s midweek victory over Millwall in the Carabao Cup.

Clarets manager Sean Dyche has omitted the Dubliner from the squad and Ireland boss Stephen Kenny will be keeping a close eye with the Euro 2020 play-off game in Slovakia and National League matches against Wales and Finland looming on the horizon.

Brady caught the eye in Kenny’s first match in charge away to Bulgaria before being handed a starting berth in the 1-0 defeat to Finland.

Brady’s Irish team-mates Shane Long and Michael Obafemi are named in the Southampton squad, with Republic of Ireland underage international Will Smallbone also part of manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s 18-man Saints squad.

Southampton will again be without winger Nathan Redmond because of an ankle ligament injury.
