Burnley are in talks with Liverpool over a move for Harry Wilson.
The Clarets want the Wales international on a permanent deal, it is understood. A fee is yet to be agreed but there is a degree of confidence a move will happen.
A switch would end the winger's 14-year stay at Anfield after he joined the club's under-9s.
Wilson has made just one appearance for the Reds, against Plymouth in the FA Cup in 2017.
He spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, playing 35 times and scoring seven goals, but could not help the Cherries beat relegation from the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has also had spells at Crewe, Hull and Derby, almost helping the Rams to the Premier League in 2019 before losing the Sky Bet Championship play-off final to Aston Villa.
Burnley are also close to signing midfielder Dale Stephens from Brighton as they look strengthen.
The 31-year-old is in the final year of his contract at the Amex and could complete a deal before Saturday's visit of Southampton.
The Clarets lost their Premier League opener 4-2 at Leicester on Sunday.
They remain determined to keep James Tarkowski having rejected two offers from West Ham for the defender.
Tarkowski wants to move to boost his England chances having not played for the Three Lions since 2018 after earning his only two caps.
Leicester continue to monitor his situation but are yet to bid this window, having had two offers of around £30m (€32.7m) rejected in January.
"I've got no other thoughts than him being in our plans. That's certainly my take on it and certainly my strong advice to the chairman and the board," manager Sean Dyche, who takes Burnley to Millwall in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, told a press conference.
"We want the players that have done so well here to be here. We think that can help to continue the journey in the Premier League, quite obviously, having good players here.
"We don't need the finance so therefore we're in good shape to tick all the boxes that keep players at football clubs and keep playing well."

Meanwhile, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders insists new signing Diogo Jota will have no problem making his mark at the club as he is as technically-gifted as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
The Portugal international, who joined at the weekend from Wolves for an initial fee of £41m, has been bought to provide support to the Reds' famed front three.
He will most likely get an early chance to impress in the Carabao Cup third-round tie at Lincoln on Thursday and Lijnders, who has a long association with the player from their days in Portugal, is convinced it will not be long before he is up to speed.
"What can I say? His technical level is on the same as our front three," said the Dutchman, who promised people might be surprised by how strong their team is against the unbeaten League One side.
"He has so much future in the game and he will have a great pathway inside our club. He’s like a pressing monster, so he will fit in straight away.
"We played against each other when he was very young. In Portugal, they all say what a great signing Liverpool made, because they know exactly how he is and what kind of potential he still has.
"He will fit into our style. We are happy with him, and all the things we heard are true. He is a very professional, passionate, dedicated, brave player."
Jota’s fellow new signing Thiago Alcantara has already had chance to show his quality with a 45-minute cameo in Sunday’s victory over 10-man Chelsea, having only arrived on Friday in a £20m deal from Bayern Munich.
Midfield is the one area where Liverpool have plenty of options but Lijnders said the 29-year-old gives them a different dimension and will have no issue fitting in.
"He is a great signing. We didn’t buy a problem, we bought a solution," said the Dutchman.
"Good teams need good players and we are really happy he is with us because this team especially deserves a player like him because he will make sure we keep evolving.
"Teams adapt, teams try to destroy our plans and what is most important is that we stay unpredictable and unpredictability means from each position we can play the last pass and we can speed up the games and Thiago does that for us."
