AC Milan have confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is in contention to start against Shamrock Rovers in Thursday night's Europa League qualifying clash at Tallaght Stadium.

The Sweden international has been named in the Italian side's 20-man squad for the match in Dublin, and manager Stefano Pioli confirmed that he has fully recovered from an injury, however, he has concerns that he has not played enough in pre-season going into this game.

Croatia international Ante Rebic did not travel with the squad as the forward is suspended, however, Pioli has named a strong and experienced side for the European encounter.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to start for Milan, while new signing Sandro Tonali could also line out ahead of Stephen Bradley's side.

The 20-year-old prospect is on loan from Brescia and is set to star in the middle of the park for Milan.

Denmark defender Simon Kjaer will be very well known to Irish football fans in recent years following several matches between Ireland and his nation, and the veteran defender will start in the centre-back position.

Club legend Paolo Maldini's son Daniel is also named in the squad for the match with the Hoops and could partner Ibrahimovic in the Milan attack.

"These are only the qualifiers; our aim is to reach the group stage," said Milan boss, Pioli.

"European football is where a club as storied as this one belongs, we want to get back there. Our season begins with Shamrock Rovers.

"Unfortunately, we have one or two big absentees, but we need look at the positives that this can bring to the game. We know how tough these first matches can be: they've played more games and have more minutes in the legs. We'll need to be alert for 90 minutes."

"I'd have preferred it if Ibrahimović had played a bit more in the friendlies, but he's completely recovered and is always ready, motivated and competitive.

"Tonali is young but he's mature and ready; he's happy to be here and has already shown us what he can do. In the last few days."
