Dundalk could face Moldovan side Sheriff Tiraspol in the third round of Europa League qualifying.
The Lilywhites are in the second round of the competition because of their 3-0 defeat to Slovenian side Celje in the Champions League qualifying last month - the match that brought an end to Vinny Perth's tenure as manager - and will face Inter Escaldes of Andorra.
That is seen as an extremely favourable draw against a side beaten in the preliminary round of the Champions League in their first ever European game.
Should Dundalk win that second-round tie on 17 September, they will be away to Sheriff the following week, where victory would leave them one round away from the group stages of the competition.
The match is likely to be played at a neutral venue.
Sheriff have won all eight matches so far this season in the Moldovan league.
Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers or AC Milan will play Bodø/Glimt (Norway) or Žalgiris Vilnius (Lithuania) in the third round.
Coleraine or Motherwell's third-round opponents will be either Albanian side KF Laci or Israel's Hapoel Beer-Sheva.
Should Linfield beat Floriana of Malta, they will host either Flora Tallinn of Estonia or KR Rekyavik of Iceland.
Tottenham Hotspur will meet Botoşani (Romania) or Shkëndija (Macedonia).
Celtic will travel to either Latvia or San Marino.
The Scottish champions will play the winners of the second qualifying round tie between Riga or Tre Fiori.
Rangers will travel to either Luxembourg's Progres Niederkorn or Dutch side Willem II if they beat Gibraltar's Lincoln Reds.
Aberdeen have a tough-looking tie away to Portugal's Sporting Lisbon should they progress past Norway's Viking.
Matches will be played on Thursday 24 September.
