John Caulfield is the new manager of First Division Galway United.
The former Cork City boss has been out of the game since departing the Leesiders in May 2019.
Caulfield had huge success in his native city. He took over from Tommy Dunne in November 2013 and led the club to the FAI Cup in 2016 and a league and cup double in 2017, consistently putting it up to Stephen Kenny's supreme Dundalk side between 2016 and 2018 when other rivals were unable to live with the Lilywhites' strength.
Caulfield left Cork in May last year but now heads west for a fresh challenge, succeeding Alan Murphy, who departed on Wednesday.
Galway are second from bottom in the First Division, without a league win this season, having drawn four and lost three of their opening seven games. Interim manager Colin Fortune will take the team for tonight's home game against Bray Wanderers.
"Throughout my playing and managing career, I've always felt that Galway United were a massive club with huge potential," Caulfield told the club website.
"It’s a club in a big provincial city with an excellent backing and fantastic facilities. The Comers (sponsors Luke and Brian) have also been huge supporters of the club over the last few years.
"Right now, we’re not where we should be as a club, there is a massive job ahead and we’ll face challenges, but I’m hopeful that I can be the man to bring success to the club.
"I’ll be looking to get hands on, working closely with Colin Fortune and the rest of the staff. We will look to bring the confidence back into the squad and go on a run of results so that we can get into the play-offs, anything is possible if we all work hard and everyone puts their shoulder to the wheel.
"We will put all of our energy and time into trying to make the play-offs now, along with putting structures in place for next season."
