Galway WFC claimed their first win of the 2020 season with an impressive 4-1 win over newcomers Bohemians at the Oscar Traynor Centre this afternoon.

Billy Clery's side were held to a 1-1 draw at home to DLR Waves last weekend but they responded in style today in the capital this afternoon.

The game remained deadlocked 0-0 at half-time but the hosts were rocked when goalkeeper Courtney Maguire was sent off on the 17th minute for a foul on Galway striker Aoife Thompson.

It was Thompson, on target last week, who eventually opened the scoring for the visitors on 52 minutes but Bohs reacted well with Bronagh Kane banging in an equaliser two minutes later.

However, Galway, who finished fourth last season, kicked on from there Shauna Fox and Ellie Rose O'Flaherty rattling the net with Thompson adding a fourth goal in the closing stages to round off a comprehensive victory.

Meanwhile, Shelbourne were 2-1 winners away at DLR Waves at the UCD Bowl as they go second with two wins from two.

Ciara Grant gave Shels a second half lead which was cancelled out by the Waves' Niamh Prior.

But Pearl Slattery headed home in stoppage time to give Shelbourne all three points.

League debutants Athlone Town, who had a bye week last weekend lost 1-0 as they hosted four-time league champions Wexford Youths, who go top on goal difference with six points before Sunday's action.

Aisling Frawley scored the only goal of the game to give the visitors the win, tapping in at the far post following a cross from the right wing.

2019 champions Peamount United are away to Cork City tomorrow afternoon.
