David McGoldrick has been named the Senior Men's Player of the Year in the 'Three' FAI International Awards.

The Sheffield United striker was nominated for the first time alongside Glenn Whelan and Enda Stevens.

McGoldrick played 529 minutes for Ireland last year, scoring once, to bring his total to 12 senior caps and one goal

Alan Browne claimed the Young Player of the Year award.

McGoldrick said: "There are a lot of players that could have got it for their performances for this qualifying campaign.

"There is a wealth of experience and young talented players, so it is a real honour and privilege to win this award ahead of them.

"I had been in and out of the squad but to get game time and show what I can do, and then win this award at the end of it against the likes of Enda Stevens and Glenn Whelan, I'm proud of myself for that.

"It has been a crazy year that has gone really fast. With Covid-19 it has made it even weirder. My performances have been good and my recent Premier League goals are what I wanted.

"Altogether it has been a crazy and weird season."

Louise Quinn received the women's honour yesterday.

Troy Parrott, who signed for Championship side Millwall on loan from Tottenham on Saturday, won the International Goal of the Year award for a chipped goal against Sweden's Under-21s during the European Championship qualifying campaign.
