Sevilla are hopeful they can soon resume training ahead of next week's Europa League clash with Roma after a first-team player tested positive for coronavirus.

The Spanish club are scheduled to take on Roma in their one-legged last-16 tie in Duisburg on Thursday, 6 August, but have been forced to suspend team training as a preventative measure after one positive test was returned on Monday.

Sevilla said in a statement that the "affected player is asymptomatic, in good health and is isolated at home", confirming two new tests had since been carried out on the rest of the squad, with the first results all negative.

"The results of the second tests, which have been carried out today, will be known this Thursday morning," the statement published on the club's website continued.

"Sevilla plan to return to training, with individual sessions and with all the applicable measures, on Thursday afternoon, whenever the results of the second test carried out are negative again"
