Shelbourne have signed versatile 18-year-old Dublin midfielder Brian McManus from Preston North End.

McManus moved to Preston from St Kevin's Boys in the summer of 2018 and was part of a Lilywhites Under-18s side that progressed it to the northern semi-final stage of the Youth Alliance Cup this season.

Last month, Preston confirmed that they would not be offering McManus a professional contract.

He's featured in some of Shels' recent friendlies as Ian Morris tunes up his panel for their League of Ireland return on 1 August, when they face Waterford FC.

"We want to get as high as we can in the league," McManus told the club website.

"It’s a good squad, a very young squad too. I aim to work hard and try to make some appearances.

"You could see it with the likes of Shane Farrell breaking in last year, so it’s great to see the youth coming through."

Morris is delighted to boost his panel, adding: "Brian is a fantastic addition to our squad. He is a young lad with great pedigree coming from Preston North End via St Kevin’s.

"He can play in midfield and at full-back. Brian has a big engine and an excellent range of passing."
