Republic of Ireland striker Amber Barrett was sent off as the Women's Bundesliga resumed following a three-month hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Barrett's FC Koln side faced reigning champions Wolfsburg away from home earlier today in their first match back but suffered a 4-0 loss as the current league leaders extended their advantage over Bayern Munich to 11 points.

Barrett received a straight red card on 76 minutes with Koln already 3-0 down to goals from Pernille Harder, Svenja Huth and Alexandra Popp, before Harder scored her second goal of the game on 78 minutes.

Koln remain second from bottom after the result.

Meanwhile, Ireland defender Diane Caldwell was in the starting line-up for SC Sand as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at FFC Frankfurt, although the visitors had taken an early lead.

However, Frankfurt's fightback means Sand remain eight in the table, four places below their hosts.
