As part of the Morning Ireland sporting moment series, we've been looking back on some of the best moments in Irish sport.
Today RTÉ Sport's Darren Frehill turns the clock back to 1974, when the USSR came to Dalymount Park to face the Republic of Ireland in a European Championships qualifier.
Liam Brady made his international debut alongside John Giles in the middle of the park but it was striker Don Givens who stole the show.
His hat-trick led the host to one of their best results of the decade and had a rammed Dalymount in raptures.
Givens was recently voted into RTÉ'S alternative Ireland XI as one of the best footballers never to have played at a major tournament.
