Longford Town condemned Shamrock Rovers II to defeat on their First Division bow at at Bishopsgate on Saturday evening.

Much has been made about the inclusion of the Hoops in the league with the nine other First Division clubs issuing a statement two days ago saying they will compete in the league "under protest" after backing down over the introduction of Rovers II to the division.

Republic of Ireland Under-19 internationals Brandon Kavanagh and Sean Brennan started for the visitors but Longford came away with the points thanks to a 23rd-minute effort from  Aodh Dervin and Rob Manley's strike seven minutes into the second half.

Drogheda United came away from Cobh Ramblers with a hard-earned 2-0 victory.

Chris Lyons broke the deadlock on 52 minutes with an excellent drive.

Lee Devitt was sent off for two yellow cards in the 77th minute, with Sean Brennan making the points safe from the penalty spot five minutes from time.

Last night Cabinteely sank Bray Wanderers 4-2 at Stradbrook Road.

They were 4-0 up at half-time thanks to a Keith Dalton brace and two more Kieran Marty Waters and Vilius Labutis. Gary Shaw and Jack Watson responded for Bray on the turnaround to put a gloss on the scoreline.

Wexford snatched a 1-1 draw with UCD at the death at Ferrycarrig Park.

Colm Whelan put the Students ahead 16 minutes in, but Conor English nabbed a leveler in the 90th minute.
