Finn Harps have signed midfielder Barry McNamee from neighbours Derry City less than a week out from their first outing in the 2020 Airtricity League Premier Division.
The 27-year old Donegal native had been linked with a number of clubs, including St Patrick's Athletic, Sligo Rovers and Cliftonville but today it was confirmed he was bound for Ballybofey.
McNamee, capped for the Republic of Ireland at U21 level, has made over 200 league of appearances since making his debut with Derry City in 2011.
He spent the seasons at the Brandywell before joining then champions Cork City in November 2017. He spent one season on Leeside before returning to Derry on a one-year deal last year.
On signing for Harps, McNamee said his admiration for club manager Ollie Horgan and assistant Paul Hegarty played a key role in his decision: "I suppose in many ways its been a long time coming. There were a few teams in the North that I was close with but in the end I went with my gut.
"I've known Paul for a long time and I know about the work Ollie puts in, and they’ll leave no stone unturned in helping us push on."
Harps boss Horgan told the club's media; "Listen, this is a big signing for the club and hopefully Barry can come in and help us kick on to where we want to be. He has plenty of experience and knows what it takes to start moving up the table."
