Sligo Rovers have signed former Finn Harps and Galway United striker Jesse Devers ahead of the 2020 SSE Airtricity League season.

The 23-year-old impressed in a recent trial with the club, scoring against Galway and grabbed a brace in a friendly with  Ballinamallard.

Sligo boss Liam Buckley was impressed with the versatile front man who operates as a striker but is also effective coming in off either flank.

"Jesse has done very well, he's quick, sharp and he can finish," said Buckley

"We saw in the games how hungry he is and he has earned this chance. He can play on the wing or any role in attack so he’ll add to the group certainly.

"I’m very pleased to get it done today and we look forward to seeing that hunger throughout the year."

The new arrival admitted that he was delighted to secure a contract with the northwest outfit and said that he immediately felt at home at The Showgrounds.

"It's fantastic to get the deal done today," said the Ballina native.

"I’ve been working very hard to show the manager that I can do well here and I think I’ve done that.

"I was happy with how I did in the games. The real work starts now because I’m here to be in the team every week.

"It’s been an ambition of mine to sign here for a while to be honest. It’s a club I admire and there’s a great set-up here. I know some of the lads and I already feel part of things."

The Sligo manager said that he was still on the look out ahead of the closing of the transfer window but maintained that he was happy with the assembled squad heading into the first game of the new season as the Bit O'Red take on Finn Harps in Ballybofey next Friday.

"We have Ronan Murray and Ronan Coughlan, Jesse and Darren Collins from the 19s in there now too," said Buckley.

"We are still in the market if something comes along between now and 22 February which is when the window closes. If it doesn’t we go with what we have because there are options in the squad but we’ll wait and see."
