Republic of Ireland striker Scott Hogan has joined Birmingham City on loan from the Blues' biggest rivals Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old went on a season-long loan to Stoke City in August, but he's made just four league starts for the Potters and has barely featured since Michael O'Neill took the reins in November, falling behind Tyrese Campbell, Sam Vokes and Lee Gregory in the pecking order.

He now moves on to St Andrew's hoping for minutes and goals to force his way into Mick McCarthy's thinking ahead of March's Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against Slovakia.

Birmingham, managed by Spaniard Pep Clotet, are currently 18th in the Championship.

Hogan moved to Villa Park from Brentford for £12m back in 2017 but he's struggled to make an impact.

This is his third loan away from the midlands club, following on from a spell at Sheffield United - in the second half of last season - and his stint with Stoke.
