Aaron Molloy signs for Portland Timbers after MLS draft

Former Drogheda United midfielder Aaron Molloy has signed for the Portland Timbers in the MLS after getting selected at the 2020 SuperDraft.

Molloy has spent the last three years at Penn State University and following a standout season in 2019, the 22-year-old Dubliner was the 16th player selected in today's draft.

The Oregan-based side compete in the Western Conference of the MLS alongside 2019 MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders and the former club of David Beckham and Robbie Keane LA Galaxy.

Molloy captain Penn State last season and scored nine goals with six assists throughout his 19 appearances, which earned him  the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award.

Son of former Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians striker Trevor, Aaron will now look to establish himself in the Timbers squad ahead of the season's start on 29 February.
