Republic of Ireland defender Ciaran Clark led the way as Newcastle United plundered a 3-2 Premier League win at West Ham United.

Earlier this week Clark was named in Mick McCarthy's extended panel for the games against New Zealand and Denmark and he served notice of his value by heading the Magpies into a 16th-minute lead.

Federico Fernandez doubled the advantage six minutes later with Jonjo Shelvey getting a third six minutes into the second half.

The Hammers were stunned, and although Fabian Balbuena and Robert Snodgrass set up a nervy finish with goals inside the last 17 minutes, Steve Bruce's men left with the points.

West Ham are now without a win since 22 September.

Meanwhile, the three amigos, David McGoldrick, Enda Stevens and John Egan, helped Sheffield United to another impressive result as they swept past Burnley 3-0.

The Blades had only scored three home goals prior to this contest but doubled that tally in the first 45 minutes against the Clarets, who included Jeff Hendrick from the start. Robbie Brady came on for Aiden O'Neill just before the hour mark.

John Lundstram opened the scoring from close range in the 17th minute after good work in the build-up by McGoldrick and Lundstram doubled the advantage soon after, tapping home a ball from Stevens.

John Fleck got a third goal for Chris Wilder's team just before half-time. Egan was withdrawn with 12 minutes to go having picked up a knock but it's not thought to be serious.

Encouragingly for Ireland McGoldrick - who missed last month's games against Georgia and Switzerland through injury - was terrific.

He's firing on all cylinders again and will be crucial to the Irish mission to slay the Danes and book their place at next summer's Euros.
