Women's world champions the United States have named Vlatko Andonovski as their new head coach.

Jill Ellis announced her intention to step down from the position in July after leading the country to back-to-back World Cup triumphs.

England coach Phil Neville was briefly linked with the role but insisted last month that he had not been approached.

Andonovski is an experienced coach in top-flight women's football in the United States, most recently spending two seasons with Reign FC, and won two championships in five years with FC Kansas City.

"All of the talented coaches and players that have come before have built a legendary tradition of excellence and I'm committed to working very hard to continue to move this programme forward," said the Macedonian.

The 43-year-old's first matches in charge will be the friendly fixtures against Sweden and Costa Rica next month.
