Sheffield United are confident that David McGoldrick will be fit to travel for Ireland's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers in Georgia and Switzerland.
The Ireland front-man was not named in Mick McCarthy's 24-man squad on Tuesday, however, the manager said that he was optimistic that McGoldrick may play a part in one or both games.
McGoldrick was back training on grass this week as he recovers from injury and while it is a race against time for the striker, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder offered Ireland hope regarding the player's current status.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Wilder said that he thinks McGoldrick will travel with Ireland, and that the club were trying their best to get McGoldrick fit to play for his country.
"We're in co-operation with the Republic of Ireland," said WIlder.
"We have to do the best for Ireland and us but we think he’s going to travel with them.
"If we can get him fit for Mick we will, David wants to play for his country so we’ll give him every chance."
